eDaniel

my name

i suppose i should go ahead and get this out of the way. my name is daniel. now when i introduce my self, i say something along the lines of, “hi my name is daniel,” or “waddup my dog it’s daniel hollrin’ at ya” or the ever popular “daniel’s is the hoooooouse.” that being said the response is often “hey dan tis pleasing to make your aquaintince” or “waddup big dan, what’s shakin’.” it is at this point i dismiss many a person because MY NAME IS NOT DAN (yes caps were necessary). actually that is not the complete truth if you want to be completly truthful about the truth errr, anyway. my first name is realy john. no, john is not my real name, tis merely my first name (my dad is john ergo the namesake falls upon my birth certificate). so now all the world knows that i am john daniel hodgson. however, i do not answer to john, johnny, john-boy or any other derivation of the aformentioned proper noun. i have always been and always will be daniel. thanks for abliging me in my pursuti of proper namage. for when we meet in e-world i would hate to have to dismiss any of you.

  1. JD: Welcome to blogworld! I’m proud to be your first comment ever…now you better start commenting on mine! Love you. (I can get away with it…I’m his wife. Good luck dismissing me and no…I don’t really call him JD or really even Daniel [honey!])

  2. When we reestablished contact after years of, well, nothing my dear friend Danielle told me that she was married to a certain wonderful man named Daniel and I thought that she was kidding. Now, thanks to this revelatory initial post all doubt has been wiped from my mind.

Welcome to the bloglandia! You have been piggy-backing long enough on the comment boxes of other peoples blogs providing much needed amusement, mystery, intrigue and encouragement. And now you have grabbed the bull by the horns and started your own site. I hope that this world is kind to you and that you have good times here Daniel.

Oh, just to clear up any possible confusion… my name is Angie. It is not actually spelled with the at symbol as my name on the comment header might suggest (@ngie). It is simply Angie, not: angela, angel, or angelica. You are welcome to call me anything you like, though my first preference in bloglandia is @ngie and after that Angie.

Nice to meet you in e-world, sir. :-)

  7. Wow, never thought I’d meet another DANIEL so bent on being called DANIEL. You should meet my husband, DANIEL (not Dan and especially not Danny, but sometimes I get away with D.) Natalie also agrees we should all meet. By the way, what do you do with those people take it upon themselves to try and nickname you Dan when they first meet you?

i.e. “Hi, my name is DANIEL.”
“Nice to meet you DAN, I’m person-who-assumes-too-much.”

  8. Helllooooooo, Daniel! I am so glad to have any possible confusion cleared up from the beginning. My name is Annie. Although my real name is actually Anita. It started with my grandmother ….

See, my grandmother’s name is Margaret … but she was nicknamed Peggy and called that her whole life. She hated it. Nicknames were out, proper names were in. So she named her kids names that (she thought) couldn’t be nicknamed: Craig, Karen, Diane, Lynn, and June. My mother was Karen. Karen was an avid nick-namer, and felt the unjust sting of having a name that could not be nicknamed (although her sisters proudly went with ‘Kare’). On having her own daughters, my mother was determined not to relegate her own children to the loveless world of no nicknames (no slight to yourself, of course), and promptly named us Kathleen and Anita – with the nicknames Katie and Annie. Thus we have always had nicknames.

This is my story. Welcome to blogland.

  9. how the heck did peggy get to be a nickname for margaret?

    Comment by alece | April 6, 2008 | Reply

  10. … not sure. Good question. It is a common nickname for Margaret, though. Most baby books will have it listed as a diminutive of Margaret. Could not explain the journey from one to the other, though.

  15. thanks for the welcome to all who have ventured into the inaugural post of eDaniel.

alece – it was actually the jews that began using nicknames. they believed that it was irreverent to call God be His name so they created the tetragrammaton (YHWH). this took the place of His name throughout scripture. after centuries of God haveing the only nickname in the universe it bagan to loose its luster and people began nicknaming each other.

it was ananastiamusus and sapuhuefaria that were the first to re-title each other… ananias and saphira. we all know how that ended for them. that is why i have avoided nicknames as much as possible.
